Rules

Hide payment methods, show them only under conditions, reorder or rename them.

What a rule is made of

A rule has a name, conditions and an action with payment methods.

  • Name: only for you. It doesn't appear at checkout.
  • If: one or more conditions. Choose "All conditions must match" or "One condition is enough". Without a condition, the rule always applies.
  • Then: the action and the payment methods it affects.

The four actions

  • Hide: the payment methods disappear when the conditions match.
  • Show only if: the payment methods appear only when the conditions match. Otherwise they're hidden. When they match, the payment method stays where it was.
  • Custom order: when the conditions match, this order applies instead of the base order.
  • Rename: when the conditions match, the payment methods have a different name at checkout. Payment methods whose name is a logo (Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay) can't be renamed.

Adding a rule

  1. Next to the "Rules" heading, click "Add rule". On a phone, the button is below the list.
  2. Enter a name, choose conditions and the action, and add the payment methods.
  3. Click "Done". If something is missing, it's shown in red at the field. Otherwise the dialog closes, and the rule appears in the list as a sentence: "If … then …".
  4. Click "Save" in the bar at the top.

In the list, you turn a rule on and off, edit it, move it with the handle on the left and delete it. A rule that's off has no effect.

When several rules match

  • Hiding beats showing: if a matching rule hides a payment method, it stays hidden, even if another rule would show it.
  • For order and name, the first matching rule from the top applies.
  • Positions are counted without the hidden payment methods.

The safety net

If your rules would hide every payment method in a situation, the app hides none. Order and names still apply. A checkout without any payment method would be worse than a rule that doesn't apply for once.

Examples

  • Invoice only for returning customers: condition "Customer has the tag" invoice-ok, action "Show only if", payment method "Invoice".
  • No bank transfer under €30: condition "Subtotal under" 30, action "Hide", payment method "Bank Deposit".
  • Twint first in Switzerland: condition "Country is" CH, action "Custom order", payment methods "Twint", then the others.
