FAQ

What merchants ask most often before installing.

Which payment methods does the app work with?

With every payment method Shopify offers in checkout: PayPal, credit card, Klarna, invoice, bank transfer and payment methods you created yourself. The app matches a payment method by its name. Part of the name is enough: "PayPal" also matches "PayPal Express Checkout".

Two limits come from Shopify: payment methods whose name is a logo (Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay) can't be renamed. And in the United States and Canada, a store that isn't on Shopify Plus can't customize credit card fields: the rules work there on all other payment methods, and credit cards stay as Shopify shows them.

Why doesn't my rule apply?

Almost always it's the name. Internally, Shopify doesn't always give a payment method the name checkout shows. Payment methods you created yourself, such as "Invoice", have the same name in both places. Shopify's own often don't: we measured "Banküberweisung" in a German checkout, which is called "Bank Deposit" internally. The settings page tells you when you enter such a name.

Other reasons: the rule is off, its conditions don't match, or it's about the delivery method and no shipping address has been entered in checkout yet. The test run shows which rule applies in a situation, and why.

What happens if two rules contradict each other?

Hiding beats showing: if a matching rule hides a payment method, it stays hidden, even if another rule would show it. For order and name, the first matching rule from the top applies. Change the order of rules with the handle on the left in the list.

Can a rule hide every payment method?

No. If your rules would hide every payment method in a situation, the app hides none. Order and names still apply. The test run shows this case as "Safety net".

What applies to guests?

For guests, checkout doesn't know a customer. Conditions on tag, number of orders and amount spent therefore count as not met, and "doesn't have the tag" counts as met. For every rule on customers, the list says what applies to guests.

An example: "Invoice only for customers with the tag invoice-ok" shows guests no invoice. "Hide invoice for customers with the tag no-invoice" never applies to guests. Anyone buying as a guest gets around such a block.

Are amounts calculated with or without shipping?

Without shipping. Limits like "subtotal under €30" compare with the subtotal of the cart. The limit is in your store's currency. If someone buys in another currency, the app converts it with Shopify's rate. Exactly at the limit, "from" applies, not "under".

What data does the app read?

For your rules, Shopify's function reads in checkout what your conditions need: whether the customer has the tags from your rules, her number of orders, her amount spent and whether she's logged in. Plus cart, country, language and delivery method. That stays with Shopify: the function runs there, and the app sends none of it to our server.

No name, no address, no email, no pixel. Our server only stores your store's login so the settings page can work, and for seven days which notifications from Shopify arrived.

Where are my settings stored?

In your store, on the app's payment customization, under Settings › Payments. The function reads them there at every checkout.

Can I turn the app off for a while?

Yes. Under "Status", turn off "Customization active" and save. Your settings stay, and checkout shows payment methods again in the order Shopify gives them.

Does the app work alongside other payment method apps?

Yes, Shopify allows several payment customizations in a store, at most 25 active. They all apply at the same time, and their results overlap. It's safer to control payment methods with one app.

What does the app cost?

Nothing. There are no paid plans and no subscription. If that changes, the changelog says so beforehand.
