Who it's for
For merchants who want more control over checkout than Shopify gives them out of the box: PayPal at the top, invoice only for returning customers, bank transfer only above an amount, a different order in Switzerland than in Germany.
What the app does
- Base order. You enter payment methods, such as "PayPal" and "Invoice". They're at the top of checkout, in this order. All others follow in the order Shopify gives them.
- Rules. A rule has conditions and an action. The actions: hide, show only if …, custom order and rename.
- Conditions. Customer (has a tag or not, number of orders, amount spent, logged in or guest), cart (subtotal without shipping, product with a tag, gift card, only items without shipping, subscription item), country, language and delivery method. Each rule uses "all conditions must match" or "one condition is enough".
- Test run. You enter who is buying and what's in the cart. The page shows right away which payment methods checkout shows and which rule applies to each. It uses what's on the page, even before you save.
- Safety net. If your rules would hide every payment method in a situation, the app hides none. A checkout without a payment method would be worse than a rule that doesn't apply once.
- On and off. Turned off, everything stays saved, and checkout shows payment methods again in the order Shopify gives them.
The interface is available in English and German, following the language of your Shopify admin.
How it works
Shopify itself runs your rules, in checkout, with a Shopify Function. Your settings live in your store, on the payment customization the app creates. Our server only serves the settings page. It never sees orders, carts or customers.
The app needs exactly two permissions: read and edit payment customizations. It sets no pixel and reads no name, no address and no email.
What it deliberately doesn't do
- No fees per payment method and no payment terms.
- No conditions on collections, discount codes, postal code, region, email or time of day.
- No order for the express buttons at the top of checkout (Shop Pay, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay). Shopify decides that.
- No effect in Shop Pay or on Point of Sale. Shopify doesn't apply payment customizations there.
- No new names for payment methods whose name is a logo, such as Shop Pay, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Shopify doesn't allow that.
Limits
Your rules run in every checkout. Shopify gives a function a fixed compute budget for that. To keep the app safely below it, the limits are 10 rules, 5 conditions and 10 payment methods per rule, 10 entries in the base order, 20 different payment method names, 20 customer tags and 2 product tags.
